Prof. Mengistu Ketema
Mengistu Ketema Aredo is a Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Currently, he is serving as a CEO of the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA). He obtained his BSc and MSc degrees in 1999 and 2003, respectively, in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University and his PhD Degree in Agricultural Economics in 2010, from Justus-Liebig University of Giessen, Germany. He started his earlier serving as a Researcher and Socioeconomics Research Division Head at Sinana Agricultural Research Center for about four years. He then served at Haramaya University for a total of about 17 years at different academic levels (initially as a lecturer, then as an assistant professor, as an associate professor, and finally as a full professor). In addition, he also served as a Director for Research Extension and Publication at Haramaya University for more than 7 years (2012 to 2019) and as an Associate Editor of the East African Journal of Sciences for about 8 years. He has also successfully coordinated and completed many collaborative projects at the University.
He supervised more than 40 PhD students and more than 70 MSc students to completion. He has published more than 100 journal articles, 20 proceeding papers, and five book chapters. He had actively been engaged in various university affairs and community services at Haramaya University. He then joined the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) in February 2019 as a Senior Researcher and then as a CEO of the EEA.
As a CEO of the EEA, he is coordinating and leading all activities under the Association’s three directorates (Research and Policy Analysis; Partnership and Communication; and Administration and Finance Directorates).
