Dr. Alemayehu Mekonnen
is a Medical Doctor and a public Health specialist with more than 33 years of experience in the areas of public health, health systems and senior leadership. He practiced as both a physician and served as Health leader starting from a Medical Director, District Health office at a grass root level, to a head of Regional Health Bureau of the second largest regional state of the Country, Amhara Region. Dr. Alemayehu played a role in establishing HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control office in the same region in the early 2000’s where he got the opportunity to lead the multi-sectoral response against AIDS pandemic. He took ample and rigorous short term training and courses both abroad and in-country in the areas of leadership, governance and health systems.

During his stay in the Academic arena, he taught public health courses mainly in the areas of Reproductive Health, advised more than 85 master theses papers, authored and co-authored 17 original papers published in reputable peer reviewed journals and wrote two book chapters. As Associate Professor of public Health, he also served as Associate Director of Undergraduate programs at the college of Health Sciences, Addis Ababa university. Since 2015, he is serving as Executive Director of the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA), a vibrant national professional Association with more than 9000 members of diverse background. Since October 2022, he is also serving as President of the Ethiopian Professional Association Alliance (EPAA)
