Prof. Bahru Zewde
Bahru Zewde is a distinguished Ethiopian historian born in 1947 in Addis Ababa, widely regarded as one of the leading scholars of modern Ethiopian history. He studied at Addis Ababa University (formerly Haile Selassie I University) and later earned his Ph.D. from the SOAS University of London. Over his long academic career, he served as professor of history, head of the History Department, and director of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at Addis Ababa University, contributing extensively to research on Ethiopian intellectual, social, and political history. He is the author of influential works such as A History of Modern Ethiopia (1855 1991) and Pioneers of Change in Ethiopia, which are widely used in universities and have shaped the study of Ethiopian historiography. Beyond his academic work, he has played a significant role in national scholarly life as president of the Association of Ethiopian Historians and as a member of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences, where he has promoted rigorous, balanced, and inclusive historical research.
